What "orphaned" means

When no one is looking after your system.

An orphaned system is one whose original installer can no longer support it. The panels may still be on the roof, but nobody is watching performance, answering questions or fixing problems.

The installer closed

The company went out of business, was acquired, or left the solar industry altogether.

They stopped serving your area

The installer pulled out of the region and no longer sends technicians to your address.

No one responds

Calls, emails and service requests go unanswered while your system's issues go unresolved.

How we take on an orphaned system

From unknown to understood.

  1. Intake & records review

We collect what you have, such as contracts, permits, equipment lists and monitoring logins, and note what is missing.

  2. On-site inspection & diagnostics

We identify the equipment, inspect panels, wiring, inverters and mounting, and test system performance.

  3. Monitoring review

We check whether monitoring is reporting and help restore access or connectivity where the equipment allows.

  4. Written findings & recommendations

You receive a clear summary of what we found, what needs attention and a written quote before any repair work.

  5. Repairs & corrections

We complete approved repairs, from component replacement to correcting wiring and mounting issues.

  6. Ongoing service

Optional inspections, monitoring support and maintenance so your system has a dedicated service team going forward.

Warranties, explained plainly

What still applies, and what doesn't.

Losing your installer does not always mean losing every warranty. Here is how it usually works.

Manufacturer warranties may still apply

Panel, inverter and battery warranties are typically provided by the equipment manufacturer, not the installer. We can help identify your equipment and document issues for manufacturer claims where applicable.

The installer's warranty does not transfer to us

Servicing your system does not mean Genesis Solar assumes another installer's workmanship warranty, service warranty, or contractual obligations.

Our own work is documented

Repairs and work Genesis Solar performs are described in a written quote, including any coverage that applies to that work.

Before you call

Helpful things to gather.

Don't worry if you can't find everything. We can work from what's on the roof, but these speed things up.

  • Your original contract, proposal or system documents
  • Permit and utility interconnection paperwork
  • Equipment list, model numbers or photos of equipment labels
  • Your monitoring app or website login
  • Recent utility bills
  • Photos of any damage, error lights or error messages

Questions

Orphaned system FAQ.

Will you take over my old installer's warranty?

No. We can service your system, but we don't assume another company's warranty or contract. Manufacturer warranties on your equipment may still apply, and we can help with those claims where applicable.

I don't have any paperwork. Can you still help?

Yes. We can identify most equipment on site and work out how the system was built. Any documents you do have help speed up the process.

My monitoring stopped working. Is my system broken?

Not necessarily. Monitoring often drops because of a gateway or internet issue while the panels keep producing. A remote review or a quick visit can tell the difference.

What does a service visit cost?

It depends on the system and the problem. We explain the diagnostic fee up front and provide a written repair quote before any repair work begins.

My system is leased or under a PPA. Can you work on it?

Leased and PPA systems are owned by the leasing company, so service usually requires the system owner's authorization. Contact us and we can help you sort out who to reach and what's allowed.

Can you add a battery or more panels to an orphaned system?

Often, yes, depending on the existing equipment, electrical capacity, available space and utility requirements. We evaluate the system before recommending any add-on.
