Genesis Solar project
Before and after.
The same home with the panels removed and the roof mounts in place, then after the array was reinstalled.

When you need it
Common reasons to remove panels.
Solar panels usually need to come off the roof before major roof work can be done properly.
Roof replacement
Panels, racking and wiring are removed so the roofer can replace the entire roof surface underneath.
Roof repairs & leaks
Partial removal gives access to damaged shingles, flashing or decking beneath the array.
Renovations & structural work
Additions, skylights, structural repairs or other projects that affect the roof plane where panels are mounted.
How it works
Off the roof and back again.
Pre-removal inspection
We test system performance, document equipment and condition with photos, and note any existing issues before work begins.
Scheduling with your roofer
We coordinate dates with your roofing contractor so the roof is open for as short a time as possible.
Permits & utility requirements
We handle any permits or utility notifications your jurisdiction requires for removal and reinstallation.
Careful removal
Panels, racking and wiring are safely de-energized, removed and labeled. How equipment is stored during roof work is agreed in your quote.
Reinstallation
After roof work, we reinstall the racking with properly sealed attachments, then remount and rewire the panels.
Testing & monitoring check
We test the system, confirm monitoring is reporting, and compare performance with the pre-removal inspection.
Plan it right
What we check before quoting.
Every removal and reinstallation is different. These details shape the scope, schedule and price.
- System size, equipment and mounting type
- Roof type, pitch and access
- Condition of panels, wiring and attachments
- Whether replacement parts may be needed or available
- Your roofer's schedule and scope
- Permit and utility requirements
Good to know
Equipment and warranties.
Aging or discontinued equipment
Some older components may be damaged, worn or no longer available. If anything needs replacement, we explain the options and price in writing before proceeding.
A good time to upgrade
With panels already off the roof, it can be a practical time to add panels, battery storage or monitoring upgrades, when the system and site are compatible.
Manufacturer warranties
Manufacturer terms vary, and some require qualified installers for removal and reinstallation. We review your equipment documentation where it is available.
Systems installed by others
Removing and reinstalling a system does not mean Genesis Solar assumes another installer's workmanship warranty, service warranty, or contractual obligations.
Questions
Removal & reinstallation FAQ.
Do you do the roofing work too?
No. Genesis Solar handles the solar system. We coordinate with your roofing contractor on scheduling and access so the roof work and solar work fit together.
How long will my system be offline?
It depends mostly on the roofing schedule. We aim to remove the panels right before roof work starts and reinstall them soon after it's finished, and we'll give you an expected timeline in your quote.
Do I need a permit?
Many jurisdictions and utilities require permits or notifications for removal and reinstallation. We confirm the requirements for your address and handle them as part of the project.
Will my system work the same after reinstallation?
We test the system before removal and again after reinstallation so you can compare. If we find equipment issues, we explain them and the options before any additional work.
Can you remove and reinstall a system another company installed?
Yes, after an evaluation. Removing and reinstalling a system does not mean Genesis Solar assumes another installer's workmanship warranty, service warranty, or contractual obligations.
What does it cost?
Cost depends on system size, roof type, equipment condition and permit requirements. We provide a written quote after reviewing the system.
